Mining Commission Joins Launch of Community Development Projects in Tabora Region

The Tabora Regional Mining Commission officially participated in the launch of several Community Social Responsibility (CSR) projects held in Igunga District, Tabora Region. The ceremony was inaugurated by the District Commissioner of Igunga, Hon. Sauda S. Mtondoo, and attended by government officials, stakeholders from the mining sector, and local community members.

The newly launched projects include the construction of a classroom and teachers’ office at Mkwabi Primary School, as well as the installation of water tanks in Nanga Village. These initiatives aim to enhance the learning environment in schools and improve access to safe and clean water for residents, thereby contributing to the overall well-being and development of the community.

The projects were implemented by TAUR TANZANIA LTD at a cost of TZS 50 million during the 2024/2025 financial year, as part of the company’s CSR obligations in accordance with national mining regulations and guidelines.

Speaking at the event, Nehemia Mudala, the Resident Mining Officer for Tabora Region, urged mining companies to continue allocating and utilizing CSR funds based on the priorities of local councils, particularly focusing on villages surrounding mining operations.

He further emphasized the importance of proper use, transparency, and accountability in managing CSR funds, as well as the maintenance of implemented infrastructure to ensure long-term benefits for the community.

Meanwhile, Hon. Sauda S. Mtondoo praised TAUR TANZANIA LTD and other mining stakeholders for their contributions to the social and economic development of Igunga District residents. She highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between the government, private sector, and local communities to ensure that development is inclusive and sustainable.

The Mining Commission’s involvement in the event reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that the mining sector actively contributes to community development through the effective implementation of CSR projects.
