As Tanzania continues to strengthen its position as a strategic investment hub in Africa, the Government, through the Ministry of Minerals, has invited companies from South Korea to invest in the country, citing vast opportunities in mineral exploration, value addition, and the use of modern technologies for mining and mineral processing—particularly in critical and strategic minerals.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Msafiri Mbibo, made the remarks on January 28, 2026, in Dodoma during a meeting with a delegation from South Korea comprising officials from the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and HD Construction Equipment, a South Korean company specializing in the manufacture of mining equipment, industrial machinery, and related technologies.
Mbibo emphasized that policy and legal reforms undertaken by the Government of Tanzania in the mining sector are aimed at attracting capital that brings advanced technology, expertise, and a long-term investment perspective. He noted that the reforms prioritize in-country mineral processing, industrial development, and technology transfer.
“Tanzania is ready for strategic partnerships that create jobs, increase domestic revenue, and enhance global competitiveness. We welcome investors who bring modern solutions across the entire mineral value chain from exploration to in-country value addition especially in the area of critical and strategic minerals,” Mbibo said.
On his part, Kim Sangwoo, Deputy Director and Trade Commissioner at KOTRA’s Dar es Salaam Office, stated that South Korea is keen to expand its investments in East Africa through productive and responsible projects, noting that Tanzania is among the countries with a favorable investment climate.
Meanwhile, Soohong Min, General Manager of HD Construction Equipment, said that South Korean companies possess extensive experience in mining technologies, modern heavy equipment, and efficient production systems that could accelerate Tanzania’s mineral value addition agenda.
The discussions covered key areas including advanced mineral exploration using modern technologies, mineral processing and value addition, industrial and production infrastructure development, and technology transfer to local professionals.
In conclusion, both sides expressed a strong commitment to strengthening commercial and technological cooperation, with Tanzania reaffirming its openness to investors aligned with its vision of inclusive and sustainable development for economic, technological, and social benefits.
