MBEYA RECEIVES TZS 42.6 BILLION TO ELECTRIFY 318 HAMLETS



The Mbeya Regional Commissioner, Beno Malisa, has thanked the Government, through the Rural Energy Agency (REA), for allocating TZS 42.6 billion to Mbeya Region to extend electricity to 318 hamlets under the HEP 2B project currently being implemented in the region.


RC Malisa said the project will boost productivity and accelerate socio-economic development for residents who will be connected to electricity, enabling them to carry out various economic activities more effectively.


“The cost of electricity connection is only TZS 27,000. I urge residents of this region to take advantage of this opportunity to connect to electricity provided by the Government through REA,” said RC Malisa.

Speaking on behalf of the REA Director General, Frank Mugogo stated that Mbeya Region has a total of 2,951 hamlets, of which 1,970 equivalent to 67 percent are already electrified.


He added that 1,981 hamlets are yet to be electrified. Of these, 316 are included in the HEP 2B project being implemented in Mbeya, while 665 hamlets will remain after the project.

Meanwhile, Baraka Mungai, Project Manager from White City International Contractors Ltd the company implementing the project thanked the Government, through REA, for the opportunity to execute the project. He assured the Mbeya regional leadership that the project will be completed on time to ensure residents benefit as intended.
