MILITARY GOVERNMENT IN BURKINA FASO DISSOLVES ALL POLITICAL PARTIES

The military government in Burkina Faso has dissolved all political parties in the country and repealed the laws governing their operations, according to a decree approved by the government on Thursday.

Minister of Territorial Administration, Emile Zerbo, said the decision was taken after authorities found that the parties were violating the guidelines under which they were established, fueling divisions among citizens and weakening the social fabric.

Political party activities have long been suspended under military rule, and the decree further orders that all assets belonging to the parties be transferred to the state, the state-run news agency reported.

Activists say such measures have increasingly targeted civil liberties and political opposition since the military authorities seized power in a 2022 coup.
