MPOGOLO EMPHASIZES THE PROTECTION OF DAR ES SALAAM CITY BEACHES

The Ilala District Commissioner, Edward Mpogolo, has led a clean-up exercise at Dengu Beach along the Indian Ocean in Dar es Salaam, issuing a stern warning to residents involved in indiscriminate waste disposal especially plastic bottles into rivers and drainage channels.

Mpogolo said such practices are a major cause of marine environmental pollution, as the waste is carried by water into the ocean, posing serious risks to human health and the survival of marine life.

Speaking during the clean-up activity organized by JUZA, an organization engaged in environmental conservation and solid waste management in Dar es Salaam, Mpogolo urged residents to change their attitudes toward cleanliness and to become guardians of their environment.

On his part, JUZA Chief Executive Officer, Nassib Kitabu, said the organization continues to work closely with the Government and environmental stakeholders to ensure proper management of solid waste in order to protect the marine environment and beaches.

Meanwhile, the Ilala District Commissioner noted that the Government is ready to improve cleanliness across all beaches in Dar es Salaam with the aim of attracting both domestic and international tourists, as well as expanding economic opportunities for citizens.

Environmental stakeholders Dr. Erick Mwate and Mariam Lulida commended the efforts of the Government and non-governmental organizations in protecting the beaches, while calling on the public to actively participate in clean-up activities and environmental conservation efforts.
