PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE MEETS TO DISCUSS FOREIGN POLICY

 


The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security (NUU) has convened to deliberate on the implementation and future direction of the Foreign Policy of the United Republic of Tanzania.


The meeting, chaired by the Committee’s Chairperson, Hon. Najma Murtaza Giga (MP), was held on January 23, 2026, at the Parliament Building in Dodoma.


Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. James Kinyasi Millya (MP), stated that the Government continues to take concrete measures to ensure the effective implementation of the Foreign Policy in line with the evolving global environment, with the aim of safeguarding and promoting national interests.


The session brought together Members of the Committee and the Management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. It focused on assessing how the ongoing implementation of the Foreign Policy is strengthening Tanzania’s national interests in the areas of diplomacy, security, economic development, and international cooperation.



During the meeting, Committee Members presented recommendations and directives aimed at enhancing the implementation of the policy. These included strengthening economic diplomacy, deepening regional and international cooperation, and reinforcing efforts to maintain peace and national security.


The meeting forms part of the constitutional mandate of the Parliamentary Committee to oversee and advise the Government on the implementation of policies, plans, and activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. The objective is to enhance the contribution of diplomacy toward achieving the National Development Vision and the Sustainable Development Agenda.



These efforts are also intended to strengthen the image of the United Republic of Tanzania on the international stage, while advancing national interests amid the changing global diplomatic and economic landscape.
