The Government has unveiled a comprehensive plan to upgrade the country’s road transport infrastructure, aimed at easing mobility, improving efficiency, and boosting Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Speaking in Dar es Salaam, the Minister for Works, Abdallah Ulega, said the plan known as the Expressways Master Plan has now entered the implementation phase and is being executed by Tanzanian experts in collaboration with their counterparts from South Korea.
In his opening remarks at the training session on the Express Transport Master Plan and Human Resource Capacity Building, held at Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Minister Ulega emphasized the Government’s strong commitment to modernizing transport infrastructure to meet current demands and the real needs of citizens. The event brought together various stakeholders, including experts from the Ministry of Works and the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), as well as government officials from both Tanzania and South Korea.
According to the objectives of the master plan, the Government intends to ensure that all nine national road corridors are interconnected through wider, digitally enabled roads that are resilient to environmental challenges. These roads are expected to enhance connectivity between production areas, markets, and ports.
Minister Ulega also used the forum to urge professionals in the construction sector to acquire skills in designing, supervising, and implementing projects that align with the goals of the National Development Vision 2050.
Meanwhile, the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Projects Manager, Engineer Elibariki Mkumbo, stated that in order to achieve the Government’s goal of attaining upper-middle-income economic status, implementation of the Express Transport Master Plan project between Kibaha and Morogoro will begin soon. He noted that the project is expected to bring major transformation in the improvement of transport infrastructure across the country.
